I have been wanting to eat one of these babies for over a decade.

When my oldest son was less than a year old, I saw this little video about The Doughnut Plant on Martha Stewart Living, and haven’t stopped thinking about them.

Last week, when I was doing a little project for Martha’s Circle, I finally got to try one some.

doughnut-plant-1And I have to tell you, they were worth the wait. That one you see pictured is none other than their crème brûlée doughnut, which is their signature menu item. Did I ever tell you crème brûlée is my favorite dessert? I may have . . . but now I will modify my statement: crème brûlée wrapped in a dough and fried, and then torched on top, is my favorite dessert.

You can only get these beauties if you go to New York, and though I’d love it if they were to set up shop in Salt Lake City, we’re probably better off. It’s best to wolf down five doughnuts at a time only when you’re visiting a place you don’t visit that often.

Sooo, next time you’re in New York, be sure to pay them a visit and buy yourself lots of doughnuts. And be sure to say hi to Michael, and Mark, if he’s there.
